developing Core requirement

Transcripts equivalent (prerecorded)

Group: images-and-media • Guideline: transcripts

Summary in Plain English

Transcripts have to be equivalent to the media, not a partial record of it. Media with no spoken content that serves only as background is exempt.

Why It Matters

A transcript that summarises rather than conveys gives its readers less than everyone else receives from the same content.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/images-and-media/transcripts/transcripts-equivalent-prerecorded.md.

Except when

  • The audio or video has no spoken content and serves only as background.
