Speaker Language Identified In Audio Descriptions

Group: images-and-media • Guideline: audio-descriptions

Summary in Plain English

Where more than one language is spoken, every audio description identifies which language each speaker is using. Incidental words are exempt.

Why It Matters

Without it, a listener cannot tell whether they have missed something or the speaker has simply switched language - and may not know a translation exists.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/images-and-media/audio-descriptions/speaker-language-identified-in-audio-descriptions.md.

Except when

  • Words are used incidentally.
