developing Core requirement

Pointer Visible

Group: interactive-components • Guideline: pointer-focus-appearance

Summary in Plain English

The pointer indicator stays visible, with the same narrow exceptions for a stationary pointer over video and for a pointer controlling the direction of view.

Why It Matters

Auto-hiding cursors force users to move the pointer to find it, which is a real cost for people with motor disabilities and for anyone with low vision.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/interactive-components/pointer-focus-appearance/pointer-visible.md.

Except when

  • The pointer is on a video and is not moving.
  • The pointer controls the direction of view in a virtual or real world environment.
