โš ๏ธ W3C Working Draft Notice

WCAG 3.0 is an active W3C Working Draft in development by the AGWG. Requirements, assertions, the conformance model and reporting tiers are still being developed and may change. The latest published draft is the 10 September 2026 Working Draft; this site follows the editorsโ€™ draft, which also includes exploratory provisions.

developing Core requirement

Pointer activation indicated (minimum)

Group: interactive-components • Guideline: pointer-focus-appearance

Summary in Plain English

Where the platform does not show a pointer indicator, activating an interactive element by pointer produces a visible indication that it happened.

Why It Matters

Without confirmation, users repeat the action - which on a form or a payment is worse than no feedback at all.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/interactive-components/pointer-focus-appearance/pointer-activation-indicated-minimum.md.

Applies when

  • The platform does not use a visible pointer indicator.

Notes in the draft

This is primarily aimed at touch-interfaces and VR where you donโ€™t have a pointer indicator, but do need to know when something has been selected.
