developing Supplemental requirement

Pointer activation indicated (enhanced)

Group: interactive-components • Guideline: pointer-focus-appearance

Summary in Plain English

Where the platform itself does not show a visible pointer indicator, the user can choose to have one shown at all times.

Why It Matters

On touch and immersive platforms there is often no cursor at all, leaving no feedback about where an action will land.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/interactive-components/pointer-focus-appearance/pointer-activation-indicated-enhanced.md.

Applies when

  • The platform does not use a visible pointer indicator.

Notes in the draft

This is primarily aimed at eye-tracking and touch-screens, where it is useful for the user to be able to have a visible indicator, but it wouldnโ€™t be universal. This aims to avoid it being in the way for some users.
