developing Core requirement

Path-based gesture not relied on

Group: input-operation • Guideline: input-operation

Summary in Plain English

A gesture that has to follow a particular path - a swipe, a drag along a line - cannot be the only way to do something, unless the path is essential.

Why It Matters

Path gestures require fine motor control and a pointer that can be dragged accurately, which rules out switch users, many voice users and people with tremor.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/input-operation/input-operation/path-based-gesture-not-relied-on.md.

Except when

  • A path-based gesture is essential to the functionality.
