developing Core requirement

Order Detectable

Group: layout • Guideline: structure

Summary in Plain English

Where content is ordered, programmatically determinable markers indicate each item's position - unless the nature of the ordering is stated immediately before it.

Why It Matters

Without position markers a screen reader user hears a list of items with no sense of sequence, which matters when the order is the information.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/layout/structure/order-detectable.md.

Except when

  • The nature of the ordering of the content is presented immediately prior.

Notes in the draft

This includes lists and processes.
