WCAG 3.0 is an active W3C Working Draft in development by the AGWG. Requirements, assertions, the conformance model and reporting tiers are still being developed and may change. The latest published draft is the 10 September 2026 Working Draft; this site follows the editorsโ draft, which also includes exploratory provisions.
Information the user already entered or was already given, if required again in the same process, is either filled in automatically or offered for selection. Re-entry that is essential, needed for security, or where the earlier information is no longer valid, is exempt.
Why It Matters
Re-typing the same data is effort and a new chance to make a mistake, which is costly for people with motor and cognitive disabilities and slow for anyone using speech input.
Information previously entered by or provided to the user that is required to be entered again in the same process is either auto-populated, or available for the user to select.
:::except-when
- Re-entering the information is essential,
- The information is required to ensure the security of the content, or
- Previously entered information is no longer valid.
