โš ๏ธ W3C Working Draft Notice

WCAG 3.0 is an active W3C Working Draft in development by the AGWG. Requirements, assertions, the conformance model and reporting tiers are still being developed and may change. The latest published draft is the 10 September 2026 Working Draft; this site follows the editorsโ€™ draft, which also includes exploratory provisions.

exploratory Requirement

New Interfaces

Group: help-and-feedback • Guideline: help-available

Summary in Plain English

An exploratory requirement: when an interface changes dramatically in a redesign, there is a way to learn the new one or to go back to the old design - unless the new interface is essential.

Why It Matters

A redesign resets the learned patterns people depend on. For users with cognitive disabilities that relearning cost can be severe enough to end their use of the product.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/help-and-feedback/help-available/new-interfaces.md.

Applies when

  • Interfaces dramatically change due to redesign.

Except when

  • The new interface is essential.
