WCAG 3.0 is an active W3C Working Draft in development by the AGWG. Requirements, assertions, the conformance model and reporting tiers are still being developed and may change. Infinite Scrolling Controllable
Group: layout • Guideline: no-obstruction
Summary in Plain English
An exploratory requirement: where content scrolls infinitely, a control before the scrolling content lets the user switch that behaviour off, and nothing becomes unreachable when they do.
Why It Matters
Infinite scroll can put the footer permanently out of reach and makes a page impossible to get to the end of - a particular problem for screen reader and keyboard users.
Where content includes infinite scrolling, a mechanism is provided prior to the scrolling content that allows users to switch off infinite scrolling. No content should be rendered unavailable as a result of switching on this option.
