developing Assertion

Deceptive Practices Usability Testing

Group: process-and-task-completion • Guideline: avoid-deception

Summary in Plain English

An organisational assertion: the organisation states that it ran a usability test including participants with cognitive or mental health disabilities to look for misleading wording, artificial pressure and misdirection, and removed what it found.

Why It Matters

Deceptive patterns work by exploiting the gap between what an interface appears to offer and what it does - a gap that is widest for users who read it literally.
