WCAG 3.0 is an active W3C Working Draft in development by the AGWG. Requirements, assertions, the conformance model and reporting tiers are still being developed and may change. developing Core requirement

Blocks Of Text Adjustable

Group: text-and-wording • Guideline: text-appearance

Summary in Plain English

The presentation of blocks of text can be adjusted without losing content or functionality - inline margin, block margin, line length, line height and justification. The exact values are still to be determined in the draft. Hard-coded styling, such as raw text that is already capitalised or hyphenated, is exempt.

Why It Matters

Readers with dyslexia, low vision or attention-related disabilities often need wider spacing or shorter lines. Layouts that break when those change force a choice between reading comfortably and reading at all.

Scope: When This Applies

The draft's own conditions, quoted from guidelines/groups/text-and-wording/text-appearance/blocks-of-text-adjustable.md.

Except when

  • the style attribute is hard-coded, such as raw text that is capitalized or hyphenated.

Notes in the draft

The requirement is that the text is manipulable and the style attributes can be overridden.
